Challenges
The client was seeking a minor landscape renovation to improve both functionality and long-term maintenance. Key issues included unclear transitions between lawn and garden beds, declining plant health, and the high maintenance demands of existing white pebble gravel. In addition, the client wished to extend the decking area to better accommodate clothes drying, while ensuring all new elements integrated visually with the existing built form.
Solution
To clearly define lawn and garden bed edges, additional low retaining walls were introduced. Dead or failing plants were removed and replaced with robust, low-maintenance local species better suited to site conditions. The high-maintenance white pebble gravel was removed and replaced with crazy paving along the side areas, creating a durable and visually cohesive access route that seamlessly connects the side yard to the front garden.
Grey timber sleeper retaining walls were selected to visually align with the adjacent grey rendered brick wall, maintaining a consistent material palette while providing a more cost-effective solution. The decking area was also extended to support practical daily use, including clothes hanging.

Summary
This modest renovation delivers clearer spatial definition, improved plant performance, and significantly reduced maintenance requirements. By using durable materials and a restrained, cohesive colour palette, the updated landscape achieves a practical, tidy, and well-integrated outdoor environment that supports everyday living without unnecessary upkeep.
